One of the views from atop Castle Crag in Meriden, CT. The view is northwards, and the large building you can see in the distance is the University of Connecticut Health Sciences Center, the medical school for UConn. The peaks in between UCHSC and Castle Crag belong to Ragged Mountain. We used to live at the base of Ragged Mountain.
I can’t remember the names of the rest of the peak out there, but they are all a part of the trap rock ridge formation in CT. My understanding is they are the remains of old lava flows. There is a gentle sloping side and a cliff side to these hills, with the cliff side created by glacier action.
