Years of violent conflict have deprived millions of people in north-eastern Nigeria of even the most basic health care services. Malnutrition is widespread and in the 3 worst-affected states nearly 6 million men, women, children and infants urgently need health assistance. With two thirds of hospitals, clinics and other health facilities either completely or partially damaged, estimated mortality rates are up to 4 times higher than emergency thresholds. WHO is working with the Ministry of Health and partners to reach those in need with essential health services to reduce illness and death.
